Who we are
Citizenshiptest.co.nz is an independent information site for people preparing for the New Zealand citizenship test. We are not connected to the New Zealand Government, the Department of Internal Affairs, or any official body. This policy covers both the website and the NZ Citizenship Test mobile app ("the app").
About the mobile app
The app collects no personal data. There is no account, no sign-in, and no analytics or advertising identifiers. Your quiz answers, scores, and best-attempt history are stored on your device only, using your phone's local storage. They never leave your device.
The app does fetch the practice question set from our server at app launch so you always have the latest version. This request is anonymous: we do not send any identifier with it. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) records the request's IP address and time in standard server logs for the purpose of detecting abuse and protecting the service. We do not link these logs to any person and they are not used for analytics or advertising. Cloudflare's standard logs are typically retained for a short window before automatic deletion.
The app works without an internet connection once installed. The most recent question set is bundled with the app and used as a fallback when offline.
About the website
What we collect
The only personal information the website collects is the email address you give us when you join the waitlist. We do not use tracking pixels, third-party analytics that follow you around the web, or advertising cookies.
Like the app, the website is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare records standard server-log information (IP address, user agent, request timestamp) for every page view, used solely for security and abuse protection. We do not run additional analytics on top of these logs.
Why we collect your email
If you choose to join the waitlist, we use your email address to:
- Tell you when the Department of Internal Affairs releases official study materials
- Tell you when a test fee is announced
- Tell you when significant updates to this site or the app land
We will not send you anything else.
How we store waitlist emails
We use Kit (also known as ConvertKit) as our email service provider. When you submit the waitlist form, your email is stored in our Kit account, and Kit handles the delivery of any messages we send. Kit's privacy practices are documented at kit.com/privacy.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with anyone. The only exception is Kit, which holds your address only to deliver our messages, as described above.
Your rights under the NZ Privacy Act 2020
You have the right to:
- Ask what information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct it
- Ask us to delete it
- Unsubscribe from our emails at any time, using the link in every message we send

Cookies
The website does not set tracking cookies and does not use third-party analytics cookies. The app does not use cookies at all. Cloudflare may set a brief, non-tracking session cookie (`__cf_bm`) on the website to detect bots and prevent abuse; this is a security cookie, not an analytics one.
Changes
If we make changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. If the changes are significant, we will email everyone on the waitlist before the changes take effect.
